Frozen Food Production & Manufacturing.

Frozen food production and manufacturing encompasses the full process of starting with basic ingredients, combining the ingredients to form various foods such as ice cream, cookies, brownies, and cakes, packaging these manufactured products, and packing them for storage and transport. These finished frozen food products are shipped all over the United States for sale in hundreds of popular food stores and warehouses. Advance Employment employees in this position are expected to learn and take part in each part of this process. Daily tasks include transferring basic ingredients, mixing batter for different products, checking products for quality control, packaging finished products, transporting packages to the freezer for storage, and cleaning equipment for use the next day.

Because the finished food product is frozen, its transfer destination is a large freezer. Advance Employment employees will not be working inside the freezer, however the temperature in the work area is generally colder than average. A sweater or long-sleeve shirt may be worn underneath the uniform clothing provided, but most employees are comfortable with regular shirts. Because employees work directly with baking batter, those who have allergies to eggs, milk, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, or other food products should not apply for this position.

All employees will be standing during their shift (approximately 8 hours per day, 5 days per week) except for two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute lunch/dinner break (breaks are unpaid). All employees should be able to lift 20-30 pounds (10-14 kilos) without struggle or personal strain. During each shift, all employees rotate positions and responsibilities frequently to keep interest high and individuals focused on product quality and personal safety.

Uniforms are required for work in frozen food production and manufacturing to uphold the necessary high cleanliness standards for work with food products. All uniform pieces are provided, clean, on a daily basis at the work site, other than shoes. Special safety shoes MUST be purchased with the employee's own funds, costing approximately $50.00 USD. These shoes are required for enhanced safety and comfort while standing during the work shift. Because employees are purchasing these shoes with their own funds, when the work term is completed, employees are free to keep the shoes for personal use.

Quality Control and Packaging Product

There are three different shifts that Advance Employment employees may be scheduled to work (shift times are subject to change):

First Shift/Day Shift:
7:00am to 4:00pm (Monday through Friday)

Second Shift/Afternoon Shift:
2:30pm to 11:00pm (Monday through Friday)

Third Shift/Night Shift:
10:30pm to 7:00am (Sunday through Thursday)

First and third shift are production shifts, primarily dealing with the making of the actual product. Second shift is a sanitation shift, primarily dealing with cleaning equipment and preparing lines for the next production shift. Industrial engineer majors who would like to be a J-1 participant with Advance Employment would gain valuable and relevant knowledge and experience for their major in this particular position.
